Nellie Belle's New Sweater

Nellie Belle is our baby. She is 11+ years old, not in the best of health but don't tell her that because she thinks she's a teenager and likes to romp and play and act the diva. We may not make it to our snowbird home this winter so I decided to make Nellie a sweater to keep her warm. She's not too fond of clothing so this is more of a thing for me than her. Anyway, here's a picture of her sporting her new duds.

She's staying close to her daddy, hoping for protection from the camera wielding mom.

Here's the pattern. I added a flower, and you can find the pattern for it here.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.

My Grand-Doggie and His New Sweater

Finally I got a chance to see my son's furbaby Tiny. Tiny is an itty-bitty chihuahua that at the ripe age of 7, was adopted by my son and daughter-in-law. As soon as I heard about him and how small he was, I made a nifty blue sweater for him. In the pictures, it is kind of hard to see but there are ridges down the back of the sweater. Pattern is archived but you can still access it. Something I learned a few weeks ago about archived pages, is that if for some reason you can't get to the archived page you want, you can go to the top of the page (with the error message on it) where it shows you a bar graph looking thing with dates and if you click on a different date you may be able to access the page.

And my baby with the grand-doggie:

I am going to be honest with you, I did get in a hurry and "goof" on this sweater. I forgot to put the buttonhole on the front and I ended up putting a snap there and a "dummy" button on top for a decorative look. I love this pattern, it is easy, cute and made for small chihuahuas.

I spoke out on political/serious subjects yesterday. I try to keep this blog fairly free of controversial topics but yesterday was an exception and I'll try to steer clear of these types of topics from now on. Too much drama in the world already and it is nice to have a drama-free zone.

That's all for now folks--hope your weekend is going well.

Christmas Sweater for Nellie Belle

1 sweater for Nellie Belle down and 1 for Opi to go. My chi kids are a bit too chubby for the sweater patterns I've found so I've had to improvise on making sweaters for them. Nellie's sweater turned out pretty nice. I only took a quick picture of it to show you and I'll get a better one on Christmas when she's wearing it. Here's her sweater:

This is the pattern, called Santa Dog Costume, I used--with extreme modifications to make the basic sweater. I "winged" the snowman.

I enjoy dressing my little furry kids up but Nellie doesn't like it so I know I'll probably only get her in this a few times. My husband always sides with her when it comes to clothes so I have to sneak them on her lol!

Stay warm...

WIP Wednesday (03 Jan 2012)

Working on a sweater for my good friends' furbaby Oodie. I did some changes to my use of the yarn colors. A few ends to weave in, buttons to sew on and a pocket to attach then it will be done. I hope to finish it tonight unless something comes up.

Here's a list of what I completed in 2011:

Completed
1. Scarf (7)
2. Baby cocoon w/ hat
3. Earwarmer
4. Baby booties (3 pr)
5. Granny ripple afghan (1)
6. Dog shrug
7. Adult Slippers (13 pr)
8. Afghan out of squares (4)
9. Doily out of ww (3)
10. Hooded Scarf
11. Hat 2
12. Baby Blanket
13. Dishcloth (20)
14. Hat--little girl
15. Left-over granny ghan
16. Wave afghan (3)

Every year I think I have finished more that what I did. But as I look at the list, that's really quite a few projects although some are small like the dishcloths. I'm documenting this here so that I can go back and compare what I do year to year.

Did any of you save your yarn "snippings" from last year. I know that many of you said you were and I was wondering if anyone did and what your plans are for them. I have a small gift bag full.

If you click on the button below, you can see what some other people have been working on.

Take care!

Helpful Video for Bernat Dog Sweater Pattern

I had tried this pattern a couple years ago and I just couldn't get it to work. Mikey has made a video that clarifies some of the problems I was having with it. So, I'm posting it here in case I  decide to give it a try again.  You may want to check out Mikey's youtube videos for some other great ideas.

I ended up frogging the sweater I tried to make out of this pattern (I was only using 2 colors), bought a coordinating yarn and ended up making a round ripple afghan. Oh yeah, if there is music playing on this blog, you may scroll down the column on your right to mute the music player so it won't compete with the video's audio.

Have a great weekend...

Opi to the Rescue...

I don't think Nellie Belle likes the shrug I made her. I put it on her this morning to take her picture and she took it off and "lost" it when I went to get the camera. So, he-man Opi became the designated model. He doesn't mind wearing a flower on his sleeve. Here's the "man" of the hour--

The pattern I based this doggie shrug on is here. I used a smaller hook and did this mainly in dc rather than the huge stitches they used. I also modified the flower by only making one of them and putting a button in the center. I think it is cute but I know dh will strip down the babies if he sees them wearing it. When he's not around, we play dress-up!

Opi Gets a New Sweater Too...

It wasn't fair that the little girl got a new sweater and not the little boy. So, I got my hook out and some left-over yarn and went to work. It's a little big but that's ok, Opi will be warm.  So here's the man of the hour---Opi!

Looks like a cowl collar!

Now the kids will stay warm  when if I get motivated to take them walking. :)

Nellie Belle's Sweater is Finished

I finished Nellie Belle's sweater just a little bit ago. She once again was a bit irked when I made her put it on for pictures. Here, may I present Miss Nellie Belle in all her glory--
Maaa, not the camera again???!!!

OK Sweetie, Momma loves you...

Another look at the sweater

The pattern I started out with is from Lion Brand's free patterns. I Mentioned in my previous post that I modified the collar, back, chest and added leg straps oh, and used different yarn than what the pattern called for AND a different size hook. Hmm, is it a new pattern?

Finishing Up this Project for Nellie Belle

This little coat for Nellie Belle is based on a free pattern found at Lion Brand website. OK, I didn't have the right yarn and I modified the collar and I modified the number of rounds for the back and the chest piece and it still didn't fit right so I added some "straps" to give Nellie B some extra leg room. Lots of ends to weave in--mostly due to all the modifications I did. Here's pics of Nellie B and she's not too happy playing model for me. She had been snuggled under an old Mexican throw on her daddy's recliner when I rudely took her covers and put this on her. Hope you enjoy...
If looks could kill!

Monday's Link for Free Crochet Pattern

Here's a cute pattern to crochet a cabled sweater for a special fur baby.  I always like dressing my wee ones up for the winter and if I ever get my current projects under control I might try to size this one down for one of my chihuahuas. That's a big if though lol! Enjoy...

Monday's Link for Free Crochet Pattern

Today's link to a free pattern is for a cuddly costume for your k9 fur baby. It can be worn in cooler weather just like any other dog sweater imho. It is from crochet kitten.    Here's the pattern.  Enjoy y'all!

Monday's Link for Free Crochet Pattern--Dog Sweater with Stripe

Today's free pattern is for a dog sweater.  I made this one and it was pretty easy.  It was a little big for either of my chihuahuas so I gave it to my brother for his little terrier-mix.  The picture here is my mil's fur baby modeling it.  I thought the rug yarn the pattern called for was a bit stiff but I bet some of the chunky or bulky yarns we have nowadays would be better.

Round Ripple Afghan for Friend Laurie on W. Coast

I love this afghan I just finished for my dear friend from high school(ca 1970s). I'm almost sad to have it finished because the last half of the afghan was really cozy crocheting because it was nice and warm on my lap! Opi, my little chi "son" liked it too. Never fear, I have washed it and Laurie's "baby" shouldn't pick up the scent of another fur baby. Anyway, back to the afghan talk, I made this out of double strands of ww yarn from Caron and Vanna White. Originally, my df sent me the Vanna White yarn to make a sweater for her little fur baby. I don't know what was going on but I just couldn't get one to turn out. GRRRRRR! If you're a free member at Bernat website you can see it here. Anyway, I decided to add the Caron yarn from my stash and make her this afghan. I figured it would be something the two of them could cuddle in together and stay warm. I hope you like this Laurie. It's going in the mail to you on Monday-Tuesday timeframe.

08-02-2008 My Crochet Project Update

This is the same pattern that I used to make the slippers I posted pictures of July 29th. I used a larger hook with these. They now fit my big feet! I didn't put the motif on because these are just for me to wear in the house.

Anyway, I'm back to work on the coat for the fur baby of my good friend in California. This pattern is very frustrating. It is very poorly written, the counts don't come out correctly. UGH! This is the 2nd pattern I'm using so I hope it starts working out. If it doesn't, I'm going to BUY a sweater for the fur baby and use the yarn and some of my yarn stash and make an afghan or throw for them--lol! The pattern is at this link http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=194 .

The other project I'm working on is a baby blanket that is NOT a round ripple. It is a ripple pattern that is made of baby yarn and is worked in panels. It is very easy but is slow going because the yarn is finer and the hook is smaller. The pattern I'm using is a solutia pattern at http://web.archive.org/web/20050227234845/www.thesmartyarns.com/patterns/march03/babyripple.html

07-06-2008 Spiderman RR Baby Blanket FINISHED!

I finished the Spiderman rr baby blanket this morning. It is for my niece's baby boy due in November. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. As I usually do, the blanket is a little over-sized so that when the little one is toddling around, he can still use it. I just need to wash it and send it. I'll mail it off as soon as the little one is born. Write me and let me know what you think!
I've picked up the dog sweater that's been giving me H--L and once again, I'm already ready to toss it! I wrote a quick posting on crochetville and maybe one of the kind people there will have a suggestion or two for me. Has anyone made the sweater found here http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=194 ?
Maybe I should buy a cute sweater and make an afghan out of the yarn I have. Hmmmm, that's an idea lol!
Hugs...Sharon

Entry for October 19, 2007

Entry for October 19, 2007

This day in history 1720: Birth of John Woolman, American Quaker reformer. His "Journal," written from 1756-72, greatly influenced 19th century abolitionists. Go here to read a short article about him. If you go here you can read his journal. Here you will can read some of his correspondence.

Crochet update: I've been working on a sweater for my friends furbaby. I'm a bit nervous about it because she sent me some of the new Vannas Yarn and I don't want to "goof." I wish I could do some fittings on the darling but I'll just do my best with the measurements she gave me. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow and post it for you. The pattern I'm using was generated by Knitware but the measurements are way off from what I input.
