11 August 2009
On this day Aug. 11, in 1965, deadly rioting and looting broke out in the predominantly black Watts section of Los Angeles. I was a young child then and I remember those tumultuous days from seeing the rioting on television news. During the 60s, my childhood memories of current events were filled with scenes of race riots, demonstrations against the Vietnam War and the war. You can read the New York Times article about the Watts riot online.
