25 October 2014

I love the old Dark Shadows soap opera. I remember running home from school to watch it. I've been watching the old episodes online and I'm getting hooked again. I'm on episode 136; each episode is about 22 minutes long. Barnabas Collins, the vampire in the family, has yet to make an appearance. I've been watching the episodes on here or here. I need to find some links for the later episodes when Barnabas makes an appearance.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend.

Hugs,
Sharon

10 Uses for Vinegar

I always like to find cheap ways to do things. I use vinegar to clean my windows all the time. My proportions of vinegar to water aren't the same as in the video-- I use 2 parts of vinegar to 1 part water with a drop or 2 of Dawn dish soap and it streaks less.

Take care everyone...

A Wee Bit of Humor...

I laughed and laughed when I saw this video clip. The language is a little coarse at times so if you're offended by that I'm letting you know ahead of time. Youtube has bunches of Mrs. Brown videos, some full episodes if you're interested in seeing more of this show.

Take care...
Sharon

Changing Times...

I saw this on facebook and I thought that it was so relevant that I wanted to share it with you. When I see things like this I sometimes wonder if it is possible that I am becoming a member of my parents generation; you know the phrase, "I remember when I was a kid we (fill in the blank)" that we heard growing up. Anyway, enjoy the video.

A "Thank You" and My Current Project (WIP)

Yesterday, the doorbell rang and it was our mailman with 2 packages in his hands. The 1st package was a box of cute buttons and ribbons--the expression "buttons and bows" is running through my mind now. I knew it was from a song so I couldn't resist including a video clip of the song sung by Bob Hope. Debi from Dly's Hooks and Yarn sent this to me because she is a nice lady. "Thank you" very much Debi. The other box was the yarn I ordered from Joanns because I was running short of this color for an afghan I'm making. It is only some Red Heart Super Saver but after checking 3 stores in person for this color I had to order this particular color from an online source and Joanns just happened to have it on sale--SCORE!  This project is working up rather slowly, it's made mostly from granny squares and I'm attempting to be disciplined about weaving in the ends as I make the squares so I don't have to face a gazillion of ends (only half a gazillion) to weave in after joining all the squares together. When I just went to Joanns to get their link information (to copy and paste here) I noticed they have a flat rate shipping of 7 cents today!

These are the crafty goodies sent to me by Debi of DLY's Hooks and Yarns. Her blog is similar to a treasure chest with all sorts of goodies inside. She shows some pretty projects she has created and there are many free patterns for you that she has developed and shares with all of us. Oh, and she's a nice person too!

I ordered 4 of these although I'll probably only need 1 or 2. It's better to have too much rather than too little.

This is the basic layout of the squares for this afghan. The "X "squares will be black and the "green dot" squares will be a 5 color granny--lots of end weaving going on here lol! I will probably treat this as one "giant" granny after all the squares are together and crochet a few times around the assembled squares and finish it up with a shell type edging/border. I still have a while to go on it. So far I have 80+ of the multi-colored grannies done and just a few of the solid black ones.

Color is a bit off here but this is the best I can do today with a gloomy day and artificial lighting. This is actually black, brown, dark sage green, a burgundy-ish, and gold colors. My table cloth color is in reality, cream!

This is about it for now other than an Irish wish for you today, St. Patrick's Day:

May you live a long life
Full of gladness and health,
With a pocket full of gold
As the least of your wealth.
May the dreams you hold dearest,
Be those which come true,
The kindness you spread,
Keep returning to you.

Have a happy St. Paddy's Day and a wonderful week.

Hugs,
Sharon

A Bit of Musical Humor for You Today

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Years!!!

You know you're getting old when the bottle of champagne bought to celebrate New Years a year ago is still in the fridge.

Anyone make resolutions for 2012? I shouldn't because I didn't stick with last years. My big resolution then was to organize my craft room aka the yarn warehouse. That didn't get done but dh promised me the other day that if I emptied the room, he would build some shelves for storage. I'm going to take him up on that.

Anyway, I am making one resolution and that is to take in stride ignorance from others. I will pray for them that they will remember the Golden Rule and think before they speak. I had some tremendous lies told about me and a relationship with a sibling has suffered tremendously because of this. Eventually the truth will come out because the truth always prevails. I have to be very strong to forget what has been said and to offer forgiveness.

Anyway, on a happier note, here's Mariah Carey singing Auld Lang Syne just for you!

(Every now and then my blog may have music playing and you can mute it by scrolling down the column on your right and muting the music player.)

Helpful Video for Bernat Dog Sweater Pattern

I had tried this pattern a couple years ago and I just couldn't get it to work. Mikey has made a video that clarifies some of the problems I was having with it. So, I'm posting it here in case I  decide to give it a try again.  You may want to check out Mikey's youtube videos for some other great ideas.

I ended up frogging the sweater I tried to make out of this pattern (I was only using 2 colors), bought a coordinating yarn and ended up making a round ripple afghan. Oh yeah, if there is music playing on this blog, you may scroll down the column on your right to mute the music player so it won't compete with the video's audio.

Have a great weekend...

Have You Ever Felt Like This?

Sometimes I feel like this, not necessarily with dh but with some folks I know. Nothing new going on, I just saw this video on fb and thought about a few people in my past that this applied to. It's great to see a strong woman like this one...

A Christmas Cartoon from 1933

As I was watching this cartoon, the thought occurred to me that there are more than a few differences between old cartoons and the new. Obviously, the primative animation and the black/white vs. color are the obvious differences. Did you ever notice that there is very little talking and viewers have to use their imaginations to imagine what is being said and happening? This is an oldie and it came out in 1933 when my dad was a mere babe in arms. I wonder if his older siblings saw it at the movie theater?  Enjoy everyone!

Smurfs' Christmas Special Part 1 of 2

Remember watching the Smurfs? Here is part 1 of their Christmas Special; stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow. I really enjoyed these little blue characters as my sons and I watched them together oh so many years ago. I hope you enjoy them too. Hugs...

04 July 2010

I really liked this song when it came out.  The beat was catchy and I got into tapping my feet to it.  For me, it wasn't a put down of short people but rather a humorous way to look at height because at the time I was very self-conscious of being tall.  To all my short friends, I love you and thanks for putting up with me.

Ma & Pa Kettle Do Math

Do you need a laugh?  Watch the following video clip of Ma and Pa Kettle working math problems; it had me laughing.  Sometimes it is good to find some silliness to laugh about, and this should do it.  I hope you enjoy this too.  Hugs....

Diaper Cake Tutorial and Links

I've seen these diaper "cakes" several times as I've scanned the Internet. I was thrilled to find this video on how to make them. The gal who submitted this video has written instructions on her web page. I have to let you know that she has some sort of protection so that you can not copy and paste the pattern to a blank document and save. Just think of all the cute crochet items you can make to decorate the cake!
