WIP Wednesday--20 March 2013

I'm sloooowly turning out the granny squares for the afghan I'm making for an old high school chum with disabilities. I make the squares in batches of 5 because it makes me feel like I've accomplished something when I finish a batch. I know, sometimes I can be goofy.  Here's the "batch" I'm working on now.

Not much going on today. The mil came over for coffee and after she left, I went to the commissary on post to get some dog food and milk. I came home with over $200 of groceries. I should of had lunch before I left the house because I was hungry and started feeling starved as soon as I walked in the commissary's front door. I rarely go anywhere so I was surprised when I was driving back home to notice my gas light was on. Usually, I only put $20 in the tank at a time and it lasts me a month because I'm a hermit and don't go too many places. I filled my tank and I had to reminisce about the first new car I had. It was a 1980 Dodge Colt and it used to take $12 to fill it from dry to full. Those were the days of gas shortages too. Today it took $49 to fill from bone dry to topped off. I really miss those old days sometimes.

Take care everyone and thanks for visiting...
Sharon

WIP Wednesday (18 July 2012)

Not much done this week--only a few more squares.

After the purple squares, I'm going to go with a round of squares in greens. The greens that are here are for the corners. Once those are done and everything is sewn together, I plan on going around the entire thing one or two times in off white.

I'm sharing this at:

WIP Wednesday (11 July 2012)

It's going to be a baby blanket when it's finished. I'm working on this in between other things. I finished a "surprise" last night but since it is a surprise for someone I can't show it to you just yet. Also finished an afghan except for weaving in the ends so when I get that done I'll show it to you. Anyway, here's the baby blankie--

The center squares are from this pattern. These squares are a pain in the patootie to make difficult because there are many, many ends to weave in. I'm also using a traditional granny square and a solid granny in this. No plans on who to give this to yet but I'll find someone.

I'm linking this up to the following sites. You can visit them and see some great things and link your project up to them too.
Have fun everyone and stay cool!

WIP Wednesday (30 May 2012)

It's gonna be an afghan when it grows up! So far, what I have isn't representative of what it will look like. There will be broader bands of color through out the afghan.

The pattern I'm using is Hills and Plateaus Throw. It takes a bit of concentration the first 2 rows but then it is pretty routine crocheting that I like. In my version, I charted out the use of color and width of the stripes and also I'll be adding about 9 rows. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Y'all take care...

WIP Wednesday (23 May 2012) & Other Stuff

Working on my latest project, I have decided that I am a sloooow crocheter. I really have put several hours into this most days for about a week. OK, the truth be known, I am slow and easily distracted. I did start weaving some ends in after changing colors to save the procrastination at the the end. Anyway, I'm in love with the colors. If you've seen a previous post on this, you know that my cousin is expecting twins and I'm gambling on at least one being a girl. I still haven't heard if girls, boys or one of each will be joining the family but I know they will be loved. Now, here's the progress.

Yesterday, I posted a link to this article on a crochet group. I didn't make comments or evaluate it and no one had problems with me. What happened is some folks started bashing lawyers, talking about SEX, and acting like tattling little children "I'm going to tell Mr. X (the group administrator)." Needless to say, the whole, entire benefit of the article was lost because it was pulled from the group. I find people like these difficult to deal with. I enjoy sharing ideas and information with others but I find it hard to socialize face-to-face. Anyway, what made me irked is after being away from the computer for several hours, I saw all the bashing going on and as I was posting a comment that went something like "chill ladies" the entire posting went poof. So, what we are saying is that if you don't like what something says, write trash comments and then it will be pulled and others who may have benefited from the link don't matter--only your childish brattiness does. The group administrator was yanked out of his bed by a whiner and that's when he pulled the post. Some group members said the caller googled him and that's how his home phone number was obtained. I don't know if that is fact or speculation.  What I do know is that a little maturity wouldn't be remiss here. I'm climbing off my soap box now.

We're having beautiful weather here--in the 70s, warm and sunny. This weekend our weather is supposed to get in the 90s and that will be nice because our swimming pool is set up and the water will be warming up in the sun for this holiday weekend. Anyone have any big plans? I do believe we'll be in the pool and cooking out.

Hugs to all you wonderful people....

WIP Wednesday--A Baby Sweater

This is what I'm working on. I just have an edge to put on it and a few buttons. The pattern is called
The Hexagon Sweater Revisited found at Cozy's Corner. The body of the sweater is made out of 2 floppy hexagons sewn together and then the collar, edging on sweaters body and cuffs is added. So far it's been easy and I hope it finishes up nicely. I sometimes feel like I jinx myself if I post pictures before a project is finished.  On the other hand, posting pictures does motivate me somewhat to finish projects. Not sure what size this is since I used yarn with a different gauge.  The pattern calls for sport weight yarn and I used Carons SS ww. I'm guessing that since the pattern is for a 3-6 month old, mine is for perhaps a 12 month old? Anyway, I'm not sure of how big the little one is who will be getting this so it will probably be one of those "grow into" things.

OK, this is is for now. Hope y'all are having a great week. Hugs to you from chilly Kentucky...

WIP Wednesday (03 Jan 2012)

Working on a sweater for my good friends' furbaby Oodie. I did some changes to my use of the yarn colors. A few ends to weave in, buttons to sew on and a pocket to attach then it will be done. I hope to finish it tonight unless something comes up.

Here's a list of what I completed in 2011:

Completed
1. Scarf (7)
2. Baby cocoon w/ hat
3. Earwarmer
4. Baby booties (3 pr)
5. Granny ripple afghan (1)
6. Dog shrug
7. Adult Slippers (13 pr)
8. Afghan out of squares (4)
9. Doily out of ww (3)
10. Hooded Scarf
11. Hat 2
12. Baby Blanket
13. Dishcloth (20)
14. Hat--little girl
15. Left-over granny ghan
16. Wave afghan (3)

Every year I think I have finished more that what I did. But as I look at the list, that's really quite a few projects although some are small like the dishcloths. I'm documenting this here so that I can go back and compare what I do year to year.

Did any of you save your yarn "snippings" from last year. I know that many of you said you were and I was wondering if anyone did and what your plans are for them. I have a small gift bag full.

WIP Wednesday 12 October 2011

I actually have 2 things I'm working on. Last week I posted pictures of an afghan I'm making for a Christmas present. It's about 1/2 way done. Since I showed you a picture of it last week, I decided not to bore you with another one but rather to show you the scrap 'ghan I'm working on when I get the urge to use a different color. This 'ghan is wider than the other one so I'll be working on it and using up scraps for quite a bit of time to come. OK, here's the progress on the scrap 'ghan:

WIP Wednesday--Even More Tomato Sauce (03 August 2011)

I'm making tomato sauce again. I usually get 2 pints and about 5, 1/2 pints. Seems like a lot of work for such a small quantity but the taste is so much better and since no salt is used, it's low sodium too. Here's a glimpse of what I've got going this morning.

WIP Wednesday--Or What's Going on in Sharon's World

My crochet ADD has kicked in this past week and I'm working on 3 crochet projects. My polka dot 'ghan is being sewn together, very sloooowly but no pictures of it until it's done. I'm also working on a scrappy wave afghan:

I got a bit carried away with the width:

That's okay because it will be extra snuggable (is that a word????).

I had some granny squares in my stash that were included in a bag of yarn I got at either a thrift store or yard sale so I used them as the beginning of a lapghan. I think I'll just keep on going with this one until it's an afghan. The pastels are so pretty.

I'm also making some tomato sauce out of tomatoes from my garden. It smells so good! No pictures because I've already posted some pictures on my blog of tomato sauce and you may be getting tired of it.

Hope everyone is having a productive and enjoyable week.

Stay cool!

WIP Wednesday for 06 Jul 2011 (a day early lol!)

I've been getting bored with the squares I've been working on. Can't seem to get motivated with them. I have 12 of 30 done. Remember them...?

I've started a project to work on when my main project starts to bore me. It's a ripple made out of magic ball yarn. I'm going to give it to dh for his man cave. I just started it today and used one magic ball. It's tucked away now until my crochet ADD kicks in again.

WIP Wednesday-- 22 June 2011

I had put this afghan of granny squares aside for a little while but now I have the squares all sewn together and I'm working on the edging. Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to show you a completed 'ghan. This picture is just a small look so I don't ruin the final reveal lol!

WIP Wednesday--2 Projects

I'm working a little here and a little there on 2 projects. I have not finished the granny 'ghan I've been blogging about for a while now. I'm at the sewing together the squares stage. Here's just a quick peek at it:

I'm also working on a baby blanket. It needs a border and the ends woven in:

Both projects are at the stage I don't like but I  need to put my nose to the grind stone and get busy.

WIP Wednesday--A Granny 'Ghan--11 May 2011

I haven't been very busy with crocheting lately--just sort of piddling around with it. I did finish a few more squares. I need 3 more big squares and then I'll weave in some ends and assemble the ghan. I'm not sure of the colors but then again, granny ghans have traditionally been made of some wild colors. ;)

20 April 2011

WIP Wednesday 20 April 2011

Here's an update on my current projects. I'm slooooooowly single crocheting the squares together on the Vikings granny 'ghan. When I join the squares this way, I arrange the squares on our spare bed in the layout I want them in then I sit on the side of the bed/ kneel beside the bed/ bend over the bed as I sc the rows in one direction together. After that stage is done, then I feel comfortable enough to gingerly carry the project into the family room so that I can finish it up as I sit in my favorite corner of the couch. It's a strain on the back but I'm concerned about getting the squares out of order or having some of them sewn in with the wrong side facing up.

The other project I'm working on is yet another granny 'ghan. This one I'm making the squares in 8 rounds (the Viking 'ghan has 12 rounds per square) and instead of making it 4 squares by 5 squares, I'm making it 7 squares by 5 squares. I don't have too many made yet but here's what I have:

For the black square with the flecks in it, I used a different square pattern and I modified it. Here's a closer look at it:

That's about all that's going on with my crochet projects. Oh, and the reason for the color choices in the 2nd afghan is that I pulled colors from my stash and did purchase a little yarn to finish it. That's my goal this year, dig from stash 1st and only buy to have enough to finish project. I don't want to but I really need to shrink my stash (sigh).

23 March 2011

I Decided on a Crochet Project

After hemming and hawing and going through patterns online, patterns on my computer and patterns in my stash, I finally decided on a project. I did decided to go ahead with the Topsy Turvy Doll from Gourmet Crochet. I dug up some odds and ends of left-over yarns to use so this is a small stash buster project. I did decided to use a smaller hook (E) for the doll because 1--I'm a loose crocheter and 2--I want to be sure I don't run out of one of my yarns in the middle of the project. I'm pretty sure that I have enough except the variegated that I'm going to use on the dress. Fingers are crossed.  I only finished one of the doll's heads. So, this is my work-in-progress aka WIP for Wednesday. If you click on the button at the bottom under the picture you can see what some others are up to.

Slipper Marathon...

Here is my current crochet project. I need some quick gifts so I'm whipping up some slippers. I made one slipper last night. It's for a man and I had to resize the pattern a bit so that it would fit. Here's what I have so far:
I may have to pick up another skein of the variegated yarn. I need another 2 pair for men and a couple for ladies. I may have enough ladies pairs in my gift "stash" but I need to check that out to be sure.

You can click on the button below this post and see what other things are being created on this "Work In Progress Wednesday."

What's Going on in My Crochet World?

I'm working on a granny ripple afghan. My other projects have been put on hold because there is a time limit on this one--I plan to give it to a dear aunt and uncle. They don't know about it so shhh if you know them. ; ) I'm enjoying the use of neutral colors. I never thought I'd say that! I had gotten so used to white walls when we moved around in the military that I have gone crazy with color when we finally settled in our own home. My big mistake was when I picked a color for our bedroom that I thought resembled terracotta but it ended up looking like we were living inside a CARROT! That lasted a few years and I now have a soft-blue colored bedroom that is perfect. Anyway, I'm jabbering on here about carrots and colors and what I really wanted to do is show you how far I've gotten on this project. Sometimes I take part in the WIP Wednesday over at Every Day Crochet but I don't think she's doing it this week. Oh, and finally, here's the picture:
