Booties for Great Nephew

My niece had the cutest little boy right before Christmas. I sent him a blanket but I started thinking his toes might be cold this time of the year so I made him some booties. I still need to wash them and then it's in the mail they go. I wash most things I make with a hypoallergenic laundry soap and softener.

The pattern is found here. I didn't have any problems making these other than remembering how to count. 😞

This is a great project to make with odds and ends of leftover yarn. Seems like I frequently need something for a baby and these might be a great thing especially for winter babies.

Stay safe...

Sunshiny Days Baby Afghan

Recently finished this baby afghan (some of you may call it a baby blanket). At the request of my mother-in-law, I made this for her friend who recently had a little boy. This is a great pattern that is easily adjustable in both width and length. I did my own version of the stripes that I thought suited the colors I used much better. Enough blathering, here's the pics--

Crocheted Spiderman-Like Baby Blanket

This week I finished a baby blanket reminiscent of Spiderman's web. This is going to the soon to be born grandson of my neighbors. Their daughter and son in law are decorating the baby's room with a super hero theme. The basic round ripple pattern is by Aggie May of Crochetville. I finished it up by using bits and pieces from other similar "web like" patterns others had done. Hope the new parents like it.  Oh, if anyone is interested in the basic round ripple pattern I used, Aggie May has generously shared her pattern to Crochetville members who have pm'd her at Crochetville.

Take care everyone.

Quick Crochet Fix and Some Questions Answered.

It's time for a quick project to get a swift sense of accomplishment after working on a few larger projects. I'm making a pair of crochet baby booties. I've already used this pattern and had good luck with it. The post I made about it last year is here. I was recently asked a few questions about it so I decided to post what I hope are good answers to some questions as I make another pair. The pattern is copyrighted so I can't post it here in it's entirety (drat) so I hope I'm not causing more confusion. :)

For this pair, I'm using some old Caron Dazzleaire yarn out of my stash of partial skeins.

Question referring to the start of the ribbed cuff after making the main portion of the bootie: "...it starts with a foundation chain of 9 chs. But what purpose does it serve? Where is it attached, if at all? It doesn't say. Until now it's like a single tail that just hangs there.

Here's where I've finished row 8 of the upper foot (do not fasten off unless you want the cuff a different color):

After finishing the upper foot, you will have your choice of the plain cuff or the ribbed cuff. I am doing the ribbed cuff.

Starting the ribbed cuff for 1 color bootie:

Starting the ribbed cuff for 2 colors:
  • Join 2nd color at the center back
  • Ch 9

From now on, I'm just going to show the white bootie because it is the same for both pairs.

"why don't Rows 2 and 3 of the cuff go all the way around? I have 20 sts all around, but it says to just sc in 8 sts then turn, sc in 8 sts then turn etc. When/how do I get to the other side?"

There is some confusion in how this pattern is written. Since you are slip stitching into the main part of the bootie at the end of every other row, you should be at the other side after finishing 20 rows.

You'll be working the 7 single crochets in this chain that is attached to the main part of the bootie.

Then you will slip stitch into the next 2 dc that are in the last row of the main part of the bootie.

Next you will turn, and (in the back loops) 8 sc aross the single crochets you just made in the chains

Look at the pattern and you will see that you will work in a similar pattern until the end (I had 20 rows).

Here's a picture of mine up to this point:

Last question: The last sentence says to "Sew last row of Ribbed Cuff to opposite side of foundation ch." But which side is the opposite? Until now, the foundation ch has 2 sides because it remains unattached!

The foundation row is the one the crochet hook is pointing toward.

Stay tuned for finished booties...

Here's a cute pair of baby booties to crochet. They look like cowboy boots complete with spurs! This is an interesting pattern and small enough to make on those hot summer days that are coming up. Enjoy!

Here's the Reveal

Here's the baby/toddler ghan FINALLY finished! I got bogged down with the granny squares and my CADD (crochet attention deficit disorder) kicked in quite a bit. I love how it turned out though. I used this pattern as inspiration. Yarn is Caron and is super soft. Need to wash it and package it up because it's new home is going to be in California. I ended up with quite a bit of extra white yarn so I'm working on a something-something to go with it but that's for another day ;).

Have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Easter.

Variegated Pastel Baby Booties

I've been looking around for a pattern to make baby booties that didn't require working in the round. I often end up doing something wrong and end up with some wonky looking object when I'm working in the round because I start my round in the wrong place, join in the wrong place or something else. Anyway, I had a small bit of this pretty yarn from who-knows-where and I thought it would make pretty booties. I had a mission to find a pattern and I decided to use this one minus the jingle bells. I liked it except for the back which is joined together with sc--the next time I will slip-stitch the back together. Now that I have figuratively talked your ear off, here's the pictures:

Monday's Link to Free Crochet Pattern (02 May 2011)

I saw this pattern and it was love at first sight. Lately, I've gotten into the granny square look. This is a baby afghan that has the squares but also it is a bit avant garde. I can see that it would be easy to enlarge it into a 'ghan for adults too. Here's the pattern. Have a great week y'all...

Here's a cute baby bunting. You may have to be a member to access the pattern but it is a reliable, legitimate site (Bernat) so go ahead and register. Definitely a cute item for a baby.

Monday's Link to Free Crochet Pattern

Just found out that a relative is expecting a baby in January. I'm not ready to start crocheting something for the baby yet, but I did go on a hunt for something cute for a winter baby. I found these booties made of ww yarn that might work out along with a matching hat. This baby isn't a close relative so I probably won't be making a blanket like I usually do. The video makes these booties look kind of easy and they're kind of cute too. I was working on a simple granny square throw I'm making while watching this video and I couldn't come close to keeping up with Teresa; she crochets a heck of a lot faster than I do!  There is a written pattern for these too so you don't have to rely completely on the video.

Happy crocheting!

Monday's Link for Free Crochet Pattern--Late This Week...Sorry

Because of a technical difficulty (a brain dysfunction) this weeks free pattern is a few days late.  :(  Without further ado or excuses here it is.  This is a cute pattern for an angel themed baby blanket.  Enjoy...!

Diaper Cake Tutorial and Links

I've seen these diaper "cakes" several times as I've scanned the Internet. I was thrilled to find this video on how to make them. The gal who submitted this video has written instructions on her web page. I have to let you know that she has some sort of protection so that you can not copy and paste the pattern to a blank document and save. Just think of all the cute crochet items you can make to decorate the cake!

Baby Blanket for Cousin's Baby Boy

In this posting, I made mention of the baby blanket I've been working on for my cousin's baby boy due later this year. Anyway, here is the finished item--Ok, so I did hide the ends I need to weave in before I took the photos :). I modified the pattern I started out with so much that I ended up with a totally different look. In the beginning I was concerned that it would be too plain but I really think the edging gives it that extra "pop" that it needed. In the closeup, you can see the edging and the shell with ridges design. I hope you have enjoyed looking at it. Hugs to all...

07-14-2008 #2 Another rr for Baby

I finished this rr baby afghan this morning. It is for a very good friend's soon-to-be-born granddaughter. I had 7 baby afghans to make this year and I only have 1 more to go! I'm thinking about doing a graphghan. I'm pretty stuck on these round ripples so we'll see what I ended up making. Anyway, I have to launder this one and pack it for shipping and drop it in the mail when the little one makes her appearance. I hope they like it.

Here's the rr baby afghan that I finished for the newest member of my brother's fiancee's family. I finally used up most of the "pinks" in my stash. I think I need to go buy more but dh may have fits over it! Anyway, I hope my dear readers like it. It took me less than a week to make. I definitely am getting faster with these.

Here is a round ripple baby afghan/blanket that I made for the new baby girl my nephew's girlfriend is expecting! I hope she likes it. The pattern is Aggie May's from crochetville.org. I made it a little bigger than most people make theirs so that when the baby is a toddler she can still use it. (Originally posted on my Yahoo 360 blog)

Here's a baby afghan that I finished for my cousin's baby girl. She was born several months ago but as usual, I am SLOW!!! I used Aggie May's rr pattern. If you would like this pattern, send Aggie May a message over at http://www.crochetville.org/ . She has graciously shared this pattern with many of us. The colors are terribly off in the picture, in real life they are a light fuschia with a varigated that has light fuschia, lt. purple and pink and are beautiful.
