Spring Is in the Air

Spring is in the air in our neck of the woods.

I almost wish that dandelions were more "controllable." They're a pretty, cheerful yellow and it would be nice to contain them in flower beds. Unfortunately, they're uncontrollable and plant themselves wherever they darn well please. The tiny violets that grow wild everywhere around here are very pretty too and I don't have any problem with them planting themselves wherever they please since they don't stand-out as much as the dandelions do.

Yesterday, the weather was beautiful--about 80 degrees and sunny with a little bit of a breeze. Hubby brought home some petunias and I put together our hanging baskets and outdoor planters.

I know, they look kind of puny right now but, in a couple weeks they'll fill out and I paid a fraction of the price that pre-planted baskets cost. You can see my neighbor in the first picture tilling up our garden for us. Hubby asked to borrow his tiller but our nice neighbor came over and did it himself. Hubby is going to aerate the neighbors yard for him so it's a win-win situation.

We have a small tiller--a mantis. You may have seen them on television. Our soil isn't the best and it is better to use the big tiller to break ground in the spring. Hubby went to the store and came back with some manure this morning.

He's taking it out to the garden and will be working it in the soil with our mantis tiller.

Opi has been enjoying our weather too. A normally lazy boy, he's outdoors frolicking in the yard for long periods during the sun shiny times.

I've been working on my afghan some more. After my fiasco with using the wrong hook for about 1/2 of the squares I made I'm not sure if I'm going to meet my dead-line with this. Get motivated Sharon!

That's it for now. Y'all have a great day...

Hugs,
Sharon

Mothers Day 2011--

I had a quiet Mothers Day yesterday. Both sons were working but son #2 did come over on his dinner break to surprise me. Love it when the sons drop in--the fridge gets emptied of the left-overs! :)

Anywho, here's my handsome son #2:

And here are the cute gnomes he and his wife gave me for Mothers Day:

Spring Is in the Air

Spring is in the air! Last night we slept with windows open and it was still very warm in our house. Today we are predicted to have record-breaking temperatures--86 degrees breaking the previous record of  82. Anyway, the darned dandelions are making an impressive appearance out in the lawn. I'm not too fond of them.

I do LOVE the wild violets that have made their appearance. I told dh that he can get rid of the dandelions but please leave the violets. Our violets come in 2 shades of purple--a delicate pale purple, almost white and a dark, vibrant color. Here's a look at them:

DH just mowed the lawn a few days ago but with the rain we've had the grass is looking a bit high.  I hope y'all are having a nice, relaxing Sunday and will have a great week. Hugs to all...

Bloom Time!

I'm sharing more of my springtime blooms with you.  I hope you enjoy...

Azalea in front yard

Flowering bush in front (don't know what kind)
EDIT:  After sleuthing around google, I believe this bush is called firethorne.  It has these flowers in the spring and orange berries in the fall.  It also has lots of thorns.

"Changeling rose" former carpet roses but now they climb!

Irises in front

Lambs' ears in front

Miniature rose I bought myself because I deserve it!  :)

Pansy in chair planter.  I "rescued" the planter from a burned out house.

The rose bush was a rose tree but it broke in a storm.  Looks like a bush is growing from it but it doesn't have any buds.  We'll have to wait a bit to see if it gets flowers.  The pot in front of it has lilies and I'll plant another flower in with it

Snowball bush.  The "snowballs" are rather flat this year!

The Chis Looking Out...

DH and one of our sons cut little windows in the privacy fence when they built it.  Here are a few pictures.  Do any of you remember the show Bewitched?  I have nicknamed the chis and my husband the "Kravitz family" after the busybody neighbor on the show.
Inside the fence look at chis' window

Outside look at their window
