I'm Finally Back in Blogland...

I'm finally back here in blogland after my visit with friends in California. I left California on Wednesday afternoon at 3:15 and I arrived in Louisville at 12:45 putting me home at 2 a.m. I was feeling a bit under the weather when I left and have been fighting the flu or something ever since.

While I was gone, the garden under dh's tender care has grown tremendously. Unfortunately, I should have planted the sweet potato vine I had growing because it turned into a stinky pile of mush.

While I was gone, I visited yard/garage sales and a few thrift stores with my friends.

I found this at a thrift store. I'm going to try to "rescue" it. There is a stain on it. I got it for free because of the stain.

Haul of yarn from yard sale. The variegated color is what I need to finish
the topsy turvy doll I have on hiatus!

We also visited 2 casinos and no one won :( --
This one is in the SF Bay area.

This one is in San Jacinto

I crocheted a "few" dishcloths too. I love this pattern from Lion Brand Yarns. I did "tweak" the pattern a bit and on some of the cloths I put a scalloped edge.

This is a super-sized one my friend Laurie wanted to use as a doily.

Then I made some scrappy dishcloths for everyday use. I really don't like to waste any yarn-- cotton yarn has really gone up in price!

And a square dishcloth:

I missed all of you. I'm glad to be home and hope to be up to par soon! Hugs...

Sweet Potato Vine Growing Fast

The sweet potato vine I've started has outgrown the mason jar it was in:

It looks kind of alienish...

After pulling it out of the jar, the root system looked kind of like spider webs:

Hey look, there are signs of a leaf or 2!

New home:

We've had enough rain lately to float Noah's ark again. The question for the day is "when is enough rain enough?"

Sweet "Tater" Vine Update (20 April '11)

Here's a picture of my sweet potato vine progress. Not a single leaf yet but lots of roots. Wonder how long before it looks like a green, leafy plant?

It's All about Plants

Did any of you grow sweet potato vines when you were a youngster? I did and the other day a friend and I were reminiscing about it. Yesterday when I was at Meijers, I picked up 1 sweet potato to grow one again. I read online that they have the appearance of philodendrons. I was surfing around the Internet looking for suggestions on how to do it and I found this super great site by the University of Illinois called the Great Plant Escape. It is for kids and it's a learning adventure all about plants--sort of a mystery, learning game. I enjoyed clicking through and trying to see how much I remembered from my science classes in days of yore.

I did start a sweet potato vine. Maybe it will even get a vine one of these days.  Here it is:

Y'all have a great week.
