Working on Our Snowbird Master Bathroom

I thought that I might share some pictures with you of the bathroom remodel that the husband is doing. This place may have been "cheap" to purchase but the remodels that we have undertaken are more than we thought we'd have to do and this is after we paid a home inspector! Anyway, here we are at the beginning stages after clearing out for the work to commence.

This tub is dangerous. Stepping in or out of it is a fall hazard. It is also worn out and has cracks in it.

OOPS, forgot to take hamper out and I didn't want you to see our undies.

There is a hole in the wall that hubby had covered with tape because he was afraid a critter might get inside and BITE us! The hole is at the correct level and size for a madman sitting on the john to do a sideways punch and damage the wall.

As you can see, there was no trim at the top of the shower walls.

Blue trim in shower was painted with regular wall paint. It has gradually been washing off.

Ugly light fixture that will be replaced with an exhaust fan and light combo.

Ugly light and mirror. Both will be replaced.

Bathtub shower combo has been removed. Look at the acorns that were under the tub!

Wall that was damaged by a roof leak. I knew there was a problem when I cleaned the shower walls and there was quite a bit of "give" when any amount of scrubbing power was used. Glad we replaced the roof.

Another look at the wall that was damaged by the leaking roof.

And yet another look at the damaged wall. You are seeing into the master bedroom.

Here's a closeup of the acorns that a critter deposited under the tub.

Here is a look at the hole in the wall that was next to the toilet.

Looking from the bedroom into the damaged wall into the shower.

Tub and vanity ready for disposal.

Looking at shower area. Flooring will all be replaced.

Spot for the new toilet

I think we have just about everything to do the job except for the drywall and new toilet. I went today and did the shopping for new faucets, some fasteners and towel bars. We have a nice vanity that we bought 2nd hand last year and it has been sitting in the living room since then--how crazy is that? It is about 60" long and has much more storage room than the old one. Stay tuned for more pictures to watch the progress as this scuzzy space becomes a pretty and practical bathroom.

Take care everyone!

Crazy Dishcloth Making Lady

Hey, it's that crazy dishcloth making lady back here again. Why am I making so darned many dishclothes? The answer to that question is easy. One of these days years days, I am going to have a bunch of stuff crocheted and sell it at a craft show. I know, I should have enough things made now but I enjoy giving these things away too. I've never participated in a craft show but I understand that often space rent is pricey and you have to sell quite a bit to at least make your money back. Now, I am hoarding crocheted items. I'd like to sell things at a reasonable price but if the only one making money is the venue and I'm not going to break even then it seems that I need a fairly large stockpile of things to sell that are practical and not too pricey. Anyway, that's my theory on selling at craft shows. What about you? What craft show experiences have you had?

Here are a few more dishcloths that I've made. As I've mentioned before, when I'm showing things made from a pattern I've used previously, I'll try to include something made from a new-to-me pattern to put a little spice in the mix. So here we go--

Made from scraps

We're still down in Florida. Hubby is getting ready to do some work on the master bedroom and bath. We have a small, single wide trailer and we thought we would have a good deal after a little bit of sweat equity was put into the place. Unfortunately, the "little bit" of sweat equity turned into a very big bit. I'm looking at things optimistically--in a few years we want to move down here year-round and get a house. Husband and I are having a learning experience with the work that is going into this place so we'll (okay mainly husband) be better qualified when it comes to fixing up a house. I will show you some pictures later) on.

This is all I have for now. Y'all take care and stay warm!

Kitchen Things

I'm am still obsessed with dishcloths and have some more to show you. Before I post them, I'm going to show you what I made with the sewing machine I received for Christmas. I made this curtain to go inside the glass door of a kitchen cabinet. I think it turned out cute. I am trying to include something "different" here when I become obsessed with the same crochet things.

And here's the dishcloths--

Halloween colors in this one.

We came to Florida to stay warm in the winter but this morning, it was 38 degrees when hubby got up to take our Nellie Belle for a walk--BRRRRRRR! Stay warm everyone.

Take care,

Sharon

Dishcloth Obsession Continues...

I'm having an obsession with making dishcloths lately. The first 1 I'm going to show you is made from a pattern I haven't used before. I hope this keeps you from getting too bored from seeing so many dishcloths from the same pattern. I do enjoy seeing the different color schemes each dishcloth has and hope you do too. Here's the pics--

Last but not least is one of my favorites and it's made from scraps--

The only difference I do with this pattern is that I make 2 rounds for the edging instead of the 1 the pattern calls for.

Hope that all is well with you. Thanks for stopping in and having a look at what I've been up to lately. Take care y'all.

Monday's Link to Free Crochet Pattern (01 February 2016)

Today's link to a free pattern takes us to a pattern for a feminine afghan with a rose design. It is so pretty and I think you will like it too.

I Have a Dishcloth Thing Lately

My latest hooking obsession has been making dishcloths as you have probably figured out from a few posts ago and today's post. The first dishcloth is made from a new-to-me pattern. I have a hard time with the reverse single crochet and crab stitch so I modified the pattern's edging by alternating triple crochets with slip stitches all the way around with the wrong side facing me.

The rest of the dishcloths were made from my favorite dishcloth pattern to make and do dishes with. The main color I used was a soft green and I used a contrasting color. With the green coming from a cone, there was no shortage of that color. I used the small balls of peaches and cream also. From 1 ball, I was able to make 1 dishcloth out of the small ball of yarn with 2 rounds of the green to edge it. There was enough yarn from the small ball to do 2 rounds of edging on one green dishcloth, and 1 round of edging on another. Only a tiny bit remained that I will probably use to make a scrappy dishcloth somewhere down the line. I hate to waste yarn and for everyday use, scrap dishcloths are ok with me.

Think I'll make 1 or 2 more dishcloths and then it's on to a different sort of pattern.

This is all I have that is new for now.

God Bless,

Sharon

New Snowbird Kitchen

I have been asked several times recently about how the remodel on our snowbird kitchen turned out. It turned out GREAT! Husband did a fantastic job with some assistance from our neighbor. Everything had to be done on the "cheap." The sink and faucets are "hand-me-downs" from someone who had recently remodeled their kitchen. The cabinets mainly came from a scratch and dent store and a few were unfinished ones from Home Depot. The flooring was purchased with a military discount. The original cabinets were warped and sagging. They were made from particle board and had been water damaged. The original counters slanted. The flooring was in bad shape both functionally and aesthetically. I had tried to "dress things up" a bit with my red accessories and small appliances but it didn't help much. The following slide show video gives you a look at how things ended up. Enjoy!

Kitchen Stuff!

Greetings y'all. I've been a bit scarce here lately but I have still been working with my hooks. I made a few things for the kitchen. I tried Scrubby yarn by Red Heart and it's okay to work with but I'm not totally thrilled with it. Here's what I have for you:

  • 2 Bubble Dishcloths. When you get to the link for this pattern, it "blacks out" and gives an error message. You will notice that the blacked out area has an "x" in your upper right hand corner. Just click on the x and then the pattern is visible. The only change I made to this pattern was to make 2 rounds instead of 1 to make a border.

  • Bumpy Dishcloth. I like this dishcloth but it is hard on the hands making it because it calls for a small hook (E) and the stitches are tight. However, I will probably leisurely make it again because I am happy with the end result.

  • Scrubby Pads. I used Red Heart Scrubby Yarn. No pattern. I used a G hook and chained 21. I crocheted 22 rows of single crochets on 20 stitches. Easy to make.

This is it for now folks. Hope you are staying comfy-cozy. Take care my friends.
