Afghan Obsession Continues...

I have continued making making afghans using the Gigi’s Block Party Blanket pattern. Here are the latest 2.

The next rendition of this pattern has a more sedate, traditional look to it. There are 2 different yarns used, they are the same color but the second has a "fleck" look to it. I did the afghan in 4 sections alternating the yarns after repeating round 15.

With the leftover yarn, I made coordinating slippers.

Hoping that you are well. Times like we are going through now are trying. I hope that you have found things to keep you occupied at home to ward off the tedium of staying in 24/7.

Turquoise Block Party Blanket

I promised you that I had another blanket ready to share with you and here it is.

Pattern was a little confusing the first time I used it but this is the 3rd 4th time I used it and it is getting easier to make. I love the way the use of colors changes the look completely. I only wish I was talented enough to design something like this. 

I used Red Heart yarn for the turquoise and a bargain yarn from Herrschners for the multicolor yarn. This was one of those mystery yarns that you know what kind it is but not the color. It is kind of fun to receive it and decide what to make with it. I have enough left  over to make another blanket and I think I might just coordinate it with red. That will be a little bit later in my blanket making marathon. First I need to make something that is needed before Christmas. 

Three more rounds on the current blanket I am making. It is taking me about 2 weeks to make one of these. I am soooooo addicted!

Another Gigi's Block Party Blanket

I am totally addicted to this pattern even if I have to remind myself to count as I'm doing it. It has been very easy for me to lose a stitch here and there, hence the need for me to count. This project looks intricate but it is not. The stitches used are simple to make but add a certain pizzazz to the project.  You can find the pattern here.

Guess Who Is Back? --> ME!

I am a slow poke about posting but I am finally back. A project that I started before my couple year lose of crochet mojo is finished. Also finished is a beautiful throw in awesome fall colors.

Pattern

I left some of the fins off because I thought they would interfere with the user's comfort. I am not happy with how mine turned out but I will probably make another one in the future to see if I can improve on the first one. This was a major ufo (unfinshed object) for a couple years after Dad died and I really had a hard time picking up my crochet hooks until just before last Christmas.

Next is a beautiful throw. I am in love with the fall colors of this. The yarn is one of Lion Brand's Mandala colors.The pattern called for worsted weight but this yarn is dk weight. To compensate for the "thinner" yarn, I used a smaller hook and made several additional rounds to keep it adult size.  I gave this to a great friend I've had since high school (I am 63). Suggestions about making this throw. I recommend that you keep a pad of paper handy to make notes on. The main thing I found out about this was that it was easy to have the stitch count off. I did much recounting and sometimes the count was off because I got distracted or once in a while it was really off and I didn't know why so I would frog a bit and do it over. This would usually take care of it but one time, I had to throw an extra stitch in on a side. 

I have a few more projects to show you but I will post later on.

Monochrome Throw

I have become engrossed with making throws, afghans and lapghans out of squares. There are many varieties of squares and colors of yarn that possibilities are endless. Here I made a throw in a single color and used solid grannies and traditional grannies. I think it turned out lovely and a more sophisticated look than multicolor squares would make. There is no pattern, I just fiddled around and came up with this. I used larger hooks than I usually use for the lapghans I make.

I used a little over 2 Caron One Pound skeins of off white. This yarn is nice and soft and after washing it was very soft. I did use the wash cycle for delicates and dried on medium heat. I used softener in the wash and also used dryer sheets that were probably not necessary.

I have a pile of slippers that I've recently made. I have a trip planned back to my old home state of Illinois to visit and I plan on taking everyone I visit a pair of slippers. I know that I will probably miscalculate but I hope that I err on the side of making too many instead of too few. I will be showing you these slippers another day.

Backlog of Finished Projects

Slipper Socks for Woman:

No pattern, I just made solid granny squares. The one in browns, is made with a "G" hook and is slated to be donated to a veterans home when it opens next month. All squares are 6 rounds.

This one is made with a larger hook (I) and is a throw for a special friend. The multicolored squares are 6 rounds and the solid colored squares are 12 rounds.

Blogland has slowed down lots and lots and I am partially to blame for it. So much of it has become commercialized and not just online friends sharing their creations. I will make an effort to post more often and I hope you will too. I miss you!

Crochet Happenings Here...

I missed the WIP Wednesday over at Everyday Crochet so I thought I'd post what's going on a day late.
I have some balls of a boucle like yarn that I got at a thrift store and I thought I'd make a scarf out of it:

I finally finished this throw (I know you've seen it as a wip many times):

Here's a closer look at the edging:

To make the edging, have the wrong side facing you and then slip stitch in one stitch and a treble (triple) crochet in the next--keep on repeating.This throw, you may remember, was to go to one of the guests I was expecting in December, but their visit had to be rescheduled.

Another guest had to reschedule their visit too and they were supposed to get this throw:

They're both planning to come through here in the spring so the first one here gets the first pick! :)

I'm not a person who stays focused on one project at a time. The other currently in progress project is a granny square ghan. My mil had found a bag of squares made and there was extra yarn included. I've been working on this for the last few days.I've been making additional squares and some of the squares were sewn together but the original crocheter wasn't paying attention to what they were doing and some were facing right side up and other squares had the wrong side up. I had to take the ones apart that were sewn together and I did have to make the last round on a few of them because I accidentally cut the wrong yarn. The original crocheter did do something that I'm not happy with and that is (s)he left short ends that could not be woven in. I'm concerned with the durability of this ghan with so many of the squares having the short ends. The colors of these squares are beautiful. Here's a look at a few of them:

I also made a pair of men's slippers. I gave them to my son but forgot to get a picture of them before he took off with them. :) (Love ya Matthew!)
