After grocery shopping the other day and seeing all sorts of Christmas goodies everywhere it dawned on me that it is time to get working on Christmasy things. My Version of a Granny Ripple

Just finished an afghan the other day. I used the Granny Goes Ripple pattern. The yarn I used was Caron Cake and Caron One Pound. I didn't realized that the Caron Cake was a wool and acrylic blend and was recommended to be hand washed. Another thing about Caron Cake yarn is that it is very light weight when compared to other medium weight worsted yarns. The afghan was going to be a gift but I decided to keep it for myself and make another one for a gift. Here's the pic:

I'm feeling better now, just have to use a cane when I walk around stores and places like that. my back went out and I've been told I have degenerative arthritis, stenosis and degenerative disk disease--and they're all the same thing and it depends on who you talk to what it's called. I had a visiting nurse, occupational therapist and a physical therapist come to the house for a month. It was pretty frustrating to be laid up for so long and depend on husband for everything including bathing. He was a great nurse, just a little too over protective. You hear so much about the V.A. hospitals not giving good care to veterans but that just isn't so in my case. They gave me a wheel chair, bedside commode, shower chair and cane. They also arranged for the home health folks to visit me. I could have had someone come in and clean the house. I did turn that down because I have a problem with so many people coming and going. I am very thankful for the health care I receive from the V.A.

My primary care provider and I think that the flareup of severe back pain is related to me going back to church after many years of being a heathen and then doing the kneeling thing at church. Now I just sit when everyone else kneels.

An Explanation

I have been trying to be more regular here at least with the weekly link to an interesting pattern. I have literally been flat on my back. I have been laid out on the couch, since Wednesday last week. I had spent a couple days in the hospital before that because it was too painful to walk. What seems to be the final word is that it is degenerative arthritis and I was having a doozy of a flair-up. Hubby has been my angel of mercy helping me do things you don't wish to ever think of your husband helping with. I don't even feel like reading or crocheting so you know things have not been normal. I will hopefully be somewhat back to "normal" next week.

I'm a bit off season with today's link. I am sending you to a pattern for a Christmasy afghan. If you start on a big item like this now, you still have plenty of time to make it if you so choose. Camera on sale but not sure how long...

Ripply Lapghan

This is made from a pattern that is one of the freebies you get at stores that sell yarn. I think this one came from Michaels but not totally sure because I stashed my copy somewhere and not sure where. Anyway, I made it approximately square so it was a good size for lapghan. This was fun and easy but I goofed and left the weaving-in-of-the-ends until the end and then it sat for a couple of weeks. I found it more interesting to make a few more dishcloths rather than weave in the ends.

I'm recovering from dental surgery. I had my gums on half of my mouth slit open and the dentist did something or other in hopes of having improved and healthy gums. This was done Thursday and today (Sunday) hubby told me to go look in the mirror. Lo and Behold my face was yellow on one side like an old bruise! Ugh, looks like I was in a fight or something. It's still a bit hard to eat. Everything has to be very small and eaten on one side and I have to use my fork to put the food all the way back on the unoperated on side because there is still swelling and soreness on the other side. Tried spaghetti tonight and that just didn't work. On the positive side, can't eat much maybe I'll lose weight. Until the past several years I avoided dentists because of some fear or something. Postmenopausal and getting low on calcium and having to have 4 root canals, I learned that losing teeth was a bigger fear than going to a dentist. I have even talked to my son that every year when his income tax return comes in would be the time for dental care and  eye exams. Avoiding dental care is one of those things I wish I wouldn't have done in my younger years. So kids, make it a priority to take the best possible care of your teeth.

Michaels has Sugar 'n Cream yarn on sale for $1! It would be great to add to the hoard stash. I came home with a good sized bag of it and it's in the car waiting for an opportune time to bring it in the house. Husband is good about my stash acquisitions; on the other hand, I get a guilty conscious. ;)

I almost missed posting a pattern today but I caught it with a few hours left in the day. This pattern is something I'm working on now. So far, it has been fairly easy. I spent quite a bit of time looking for a stocking hat pattern until I found this one. I even bought a pattern from Amazon that was a vintage pattern but I'm not sure if there is something missing from the pattern or the way patterns were previously written that omits the number of chains to start out with. Anyway, this pattern looks great and isn't too difficult. Enjoy...

I've been looking for a pattern for a shawl or stole that would look dressy but would be easy to make. The On the Town Shawl is the one I'm going to check out. I think it would be great wrap to toss over the shoulders for a girl going to the prom, a bride or maybe someone who just needs a shawl for casual wear. I know, I'm early thinking about making a shawl for a prom goer but it takes me a while to decide on a project and there is a small chance I might change my mind and work on something else--ya never know...

Slipper Socks for Woman:

No pattern, I just made solid granny squares. The one in browns, is made with a "G" hook and is slated to be donated to a veterans home when it opens next month. All squares are 6 rounds.

This one is made with a larger hook (I) and is a throw for a special friend. The multicolored squares are 6 rounds and the solid colored squares are 12 rounds.

Blogland has slowed down lots and lots and I am partially to blame for it. So much of it has become commercialized and not just online friends sharing their creations. I will make an effort to post more often and I hope you will too. I miss you!
