Another Lapghan for Charity

Here's another afghan finished to donate to a veterans home. The squares are solid grannies of 6 rounds.

Once again, I used odds and ends of leftovers from other projects. I try to loosely color coordinate the yarns I use. Not perfect matches but not offensive to the eye either.

Take care my friends and I will see you later!

Monochrome Throw

I have become engrossed with making throws, afghans and lapghans out of squares. There are many varieties of squares and colors of yarn that possibilities are endless. Here I made a throw in a single color and used solid grannies and traditional grannies. I think it turned out lovely and a more sophisticated look than multicolor squares would make. There is no pattern, I just fiddled around and came up with this. I used larger hooks than I usually use for the lapghans I make.

I used a little over 2 Caron One Pound skeins of off white. This yarn is nice and soft and after washing it was very soft. I did use the wash cycle for delicates and dried on medium heat. I used softener in the wash and also used dryer sheets that were probably not necessary.

I have a pile of slippers that I've recently made. I have a trip planned back to my old home state of Illinois to visit and I plan on taking everyone I visit a pair of slippers. I know that I will probably miscalculate but I hope that I err on the side of making too many instead of too few. I will be showing you these slippers another day.

Wishing a nice weekend for all of you. Take care...

Hugs,
Sharon

Lapghan for Vets Home

Another lapghan from odds and ends of purplish yarn completed. I used solid granny squares of 6 rounds. I used 6 squares across by 6 squares tall for a total of 36. I edged it with 1 round of DC and finished it with a round of shells. I ended up with 2 extra stitches so I had to do a little "fudging" on the shell row. Here's the pictures.

Not much going on here. Last night I finished squares for yet another lapghan. It will take me a few days to assemble it.

 Take care my friends,
Sharon

A Couple Completed Things and Coffee...

Just finished a lapghan last night and a dishcloth that I made to have a little break from working on the lapghan. Sometimes I find I need a little change of pace and a small project like a dishcloth or even slippers, a hat or a scarf will do the trick. Anyway, before I "talk your ear off" here are the pictures.

No pattern, just solid grannies of 6 rounds except the center one is 12 rounds. I am still making these lapghans to donate to the new veterans' home here in our town in Kentucky.

Moving on to the 2nd half of this post, I want to share my happiness over a Christmas present I received. Hubby bought me a Keurig K55 coffee maker

I'm in love with it; however, I am not in love with the price of the coffee to go in it. I suppose if I only drank 1 cup per day it wouldn't be too bad. To be honest,  I drink 6 cups or more everyday. So I put on my thinking cap and thought about what money saving idea I could find.

I bought a reusable filter. Works great but 1 filter is over $7 at Walmart. I did buy one because in the long run it will save money. As I was browsing through Dollar Tree the other day, I noticed that they had a 2-pack of reusable filters for Keurigs. Bingo! We have a winner. I bought a couple packs and pre-filled them.  When I'm ready for a cup o' joe I just pop one in the brewer.

Another thing, I wanted to have a little variety by having some flavored coffees. Since I drink decaf (like all post-menopausal women should) I found it hard to find much variety in decaf coffees. I spent quite some time on Amazon searching for a good deal on some flavored decaf coffees. I found a variety pack of 6 flavors, 96 count for only $37.90. Score! A smaller size for $13.30 is offered but it costs less per pod by ordering the larger size. I got my order in today and have already tried 3 flavors and I definitely recommend  them.

Today I have been rather chatty so I will let you go for now.

Cheers (as I raise my coffee cup to you)!

Scrap Lapghan Finished

Not too long ago, I showed you the squares I had laid out to sew into another lapghan to donate to a local veterans home. It is completed now and I think it turned out nice. In this one, I exclusively used scraps and partial skeins and the ones I used were to complement the color of a couple squares that had some I Love This Yarn in camo color.

Hugs to all...

Another Lapghan in the Works

Getting ready to assemble another lapghan. I am making these from a ton of leftover scrap yarn  for the veterans home that is opening in our town. Currently they are scheduled to open after the first of the year--at least a year behind schedule. This lapghan is exclusively out of scraps the colors loosely coordinating with the camo colored yarn in a few squares.

Enjoy the season and stay warm!

Another Lapghan Finished

This is another lapghan for the donation stash. This is the one I was talking about yesterday. It is made partially out of leftover yarn and some new too. I used solid grannies to make this.

Assembling a Lapghan

When I was digging in my yarn warehouse (aka craft room), I found a complete set of squares for a lapghan. I forgot about them when I was laid up with my back and husband tossed them in the yarn warehouse. They became an out of sight and out of mind kind of thing. I was happy to find them because I really needed some variety in my crocheting after making a mountain of slippers.

To assemble the squares I crochet them together by single crocheting on the "right" side. I lay them out on the dining room table to establish a layout. I join all the rows going in the same direction first. Sometimes my back feels scrunched up and with my table being one of the counter height ones, I am able to stand up, lean over it and in effect stretch it out and continue working. When I feel like sitting, I can do that too by folding over a joined row to move the "working row" closer to me and joining the next one. Here's a look at my setup:

I hope you are enjoying the season and staying warm. Happy holidays to all.

Patriotic Color Lapghan for Donation

Just finished another lapghan for donation. I have been making these to donate to a veterans home that will be opening here. The opening has been delayed numerous times and I am hoping that it will be opening soon; the latest date is sometime next month. This lapghan is made mostly from odds and ends except for the blue and some of the white. I did not use a pattern, just winged it. Here it is--

I hope this veterans home opens soon so that I can donate the collection of lapghans I have and the veterans can have the benefit of them this winter.

To all the veterans and their family, thank you for your selfless service.

Another Lapghan for Donation

This is another lapghan made from odds and ends of partial skeins of yarn. This one has been languishing for a few months needing the ends woven in and today was the day to finish it. I decided to try a different type of square pattern in this one. I rather like it too as a matter of fact this gives me an idea for a regular throw or afghan by making the center out of 9 squares and then going along the sides until it gets to be the desired size. Here's the pattern for the square.

Hope you are doing well. Take care and stay warm.

Hugs,

Sharon

Ripply Lapghan

This is made from a pattern that is one of the freebies you get at stores that sell yarn. I think this one came from Michaels but not totally sure because I stashed my copy somewhere and not sure where. Anyway, I made it approximately square so it was a good size for lapghan. This was fun and easy but I goofed and left the weaving-in-of-the-ends until the end and then it sat for a couple of weeks. I found it more interesting to make a few more dishcloths rather than weave in the ends.

I'm recovering from dental surgery. I had my gums on half of my mouth slit open and the dentist did something or other in hopes of having improved and healthy gums. This was done Thursday and today (Sunday) hubby told me to go look in the mirror. Lo and Behold my face was yellow on one side like an old bruise! Ugh, looks like I was in a fight or something. It's still a bit hard to eat. Everything has to be very small and eaten on one side and I have to use my fork to put the food all the way back on the unoperated on side because there is still swelling and soreness on the other side. Tried spaghetti tonight and that just didn't work. On the positive side, can't eat much maybe I'll lose weight. Until the past several years I avoided dentists because of some fear or something. Postmenopausal and getting low on calcium and having to have 4 root canals, I learned that losing teeth was a bigger fear than going to a dentist. I have even talked to my son that every year when his income tax return comes in would be the time for dental care and  eye exams. Avoiding dental care is one of those things I wish I wouldn't have done in my younger years. So kids, make it a priority to take the best possible care of your teeth.

Have a great week folks!

Backlog of Finished Projects

The next dishcloth is  made with the above pattern but the final round is omitted.

No pattern, I just made solid granny squares. The one in browns, is made with a "G" hook and is slated to be donated to a veterans home when it opens next month. All squares are 6 rounds.

This one is made with a larger hook (I) and is a throw for a special friend. The multicolored squares are 6 rounds and the solid colored squares are 12 rounds.

Blogland has slowed down lots and lots and I am partially to blame for it. So much of it has become commercialized and not just online friends sharing their creations. I will make an effort to post more often and I hope you will too. I miss you!

Take care and crochet on...

Sharon

I've Fallen Behind!!!

I have fallen behind with my blogging. We had chores to do closing down the Florida place and back in Kentucky I've just been trying to catch up with things and  I've been so very tired. I know, sounds like excuses to me too. I apologize for not completing the A to Z Challenge. If I would have realized that I would fall so far behind, I could have written my posts ahead of time and had them scheduled to post on the appropriate day. One of these days I'll get with the program! Important news--Walmart has Peaches and Creme reduced to $1.50 so I have bought a small stash to add to my bigger stash.

I have been making granny squares  and working on assembling them into lapghans that I plan to donate to the veterans home that will be opening in our town in July (that's the latest rescheduled date). Here's a few pictures:

With the exception of yarn used to join, this is made of left overs.

Made of half scraps and half new. Joining is in progress.

Using a spool knitter to make cord. I plan to use an S hook to crochet a rug out of it. I've done this before and my little dog loves having a cozy spot to take a nap.

I have a 3rd lapghan in the works. It will have a wavy ripple design. I'm saving it to share with you later.

Take care,

Sharon

What I Worked on Watching the Republican Candidates Debate

Last night, I watched the Republican Presidential Candidates debate. I don't know why I bother because Kentucky does their primary very late in the game and sometimes there is only 1 candidate left to vote for in the primary. Anywho, I want to keep this blog mostly free from politics, unlike my facebook page that is largely political. On with my crochet projects.

I finished a lapghan out of odds and ends of purplish yarn. This is another one for donation to the veterans when the veterans' home opens here later this year or early next. I'm in deep like with the colors in this one. There are 36 solid grannies of 6 rounds.

After finishing up the lapghan, I made a dishcloth. This pattern  is a new one to me and it was very simple. I have some family and friends who like the lacy-like dishcloths to use as doilies. The pattern for this is "Hearts Go Round."

After finishing the dishcloth, I started, are you ready for this?-- A pair of slippers from the usual pattern I use. My stash for gifts is very low--only 1 pair in ladies size.

I hope you are having a great week. Thanks for visiting here.

Hugs,
Sharon

WIP--Shades of Purple

The project I'm currently working on is another lapghan for the vets. This one, as you can see, will be in shades of  purple. Still making squares for this one. All the yarn is from odds and ends of scraps to make this one and most of it is from what son and daughter-in-law picked up at a yard sale for me. Love it when they do that; I can play it forward with lapghans.

Been fighting a nasty summer cold. The upside of this is that I've lost 10 pounds! I don't think I care for this method of weight loss. I'm looking for a weight loss that involves a magic wand,

Have a blessed Sunday and a super week. Be cool everyone!

Hugs,
Sharon

Lapghan is Finished

At last, it is finished.  It is time to launder it and put it with the other lapghans that are designated for donation to the veterans' home when it opens.  The new project that I'm working on is a granny mandala that I hope to finish tonight.

Take care y'all and stay cool and dry...

Hugs,
Sharon
