Rug/Mat for Nellie Belle
Used large amount of yarn left overs to make this. Nellie Belle now has a cozy spot on the linoleum floor. I spool knitted long length and then single crocheted this. I'm posting from my phone now and it's not a very friendly way to do a blog post So sorry if I've missed any "goofs". Tomorrow the Internet and cable will be hooked up!
Hugs,
Sharon

What to Do with Small Balls of Left-Over Yarn
I hate to throw away those little bits of yarn that seem to accumulate after working a few crochet projects. So, I have broken out my spool knitter--
and I am making long lengths of cord, whatchacallit, or "fat yarn" (I have no idea of the correct name).
When the length of "fat yarn" becomes a bit unmanageable I take my S hook
and crochet things like this mat I'm making to put on the floor for Nellie Belle to nap on.
The long side of this mat is about 2 1/2 feet long. I'm planning to make it a square shape. If you do something like this, don't plan on it being a fast project just because you have lots of yarn scraps to use up. This takes a looooong time! I dismantled another rug thingie that I had previously made for my furry kids. I used too big of a hook and their nails kept getting caught in it so it had to go. Here's the blog post about the loose-weave mat --hard to believe it's been 5 years already.
There's my Nellie Belle and Opi. Sure do miss that little guy.
I frequently have CADD otherwise known as Crochet Attention Deficit Disorder so I go back and forth with this project, my current wip and scrappy grannies sometimes several times in an evening.
Sorry for the "ghosting" on some pictures. I don't know what does that.
Take care...

A Bit of Catching Up
First and foremost, I want to send out positive wishes for Mothers Day to all of you who have ever "mothered" anyone. You may be a traditional mom, a single mom or even a dad who fills the shoes of a mom. To all of you, may you have a blessed day.
Thanks going out to Christy of Crochet Happiness. She had a giveaway and I won! She gave away a spool knitter. I used to have one of those a while ago but it broke. Now, I have a nice, sturdy one. I had fun playing with it the other night as I watched television. Thank you Christy!
The other day when I went to Hobby Lobby in Louisville, I did not find the yarn to make a border/edging for the blue baby blanket. I did however, find a yarn I like at Meijers. I should be finishing this up very soon.
Ray was getting my flower boxes ready to go on the front porch. A few wave petunias and some transplanted vine-like plants should do the trick . He's a good guywhen he wants to be. ;)
I've been trying to work up a pattern for a clothes pin bag. I bought some clothes line at Dollar Tree. This yarn is made of 3 strands. Ray helped me divide the strands--a real pain in the behind (the job, not Ray lol). This stuff is a bit more difficult to crochet with. It's not impossible, just seems like it takes more energy and I'd have to stop frequently and rub my hands and shake them out. Besides the sore hands, I am liking it. What I've made so far has used up an entire "skein" of the clothes line. Here's a few pics:

I think I've caught up for now. Have a great week. Hugs to all....

There has been some discussion lately at a crochet forum I visit about what to do with those little ends of the skeins that aren't really big enough to make anything out of. Well, I'm a hoarder and hate to throw them away. Also, I'm rather burned out on making granny squares. What I have been doing is spool knitting and then taking the cord I've made and using a Q hook to crochet a mat for my fur babies to cuddle up on when they take their "naps." These things are easy to carry in my purse and I often pull out my spool and go to work when I'm stuck waiting places. As you can see from the picture, my Nellie Belle is quite the ham and had to sneak in the picture. I didn't know she was there until I "developed" the picture on the computer! LOL! Does anyone else have any ideas of what to do with small balls of left-over yarn? Let me know! (Originally posted on my Yahoo 360 blog)

One thing I enjoy doing is spool-knitting. Today I found a freebie on The Project Gutenberg . It is a pattern book of vintage projects to use with your knitting-spool! Look it over; I think you will enjoy it.

On this day in history 1846: The inventor Elias Howe patents his sewing machine. His sewing machine was not the first one invented. Howe's machine was the first one patented that used an interlocking stitch. Howe was smart to have patented his machine because another inventer independently developed a similar machine but wasn't quick enough to patent it. Go here to read a little bit about the development and history of the sewing machine.
