Finally, I Finished Something

My crochet mojo had gotten up and left for a while.I finally finished this afghan that I had promised to someone quite a while ago. I do like this pattern and this is the second time I used it. The first time I made this project I did not put the edging on and I think I actually might like it a little better without it although it did turn out nice with it too. The person who this is for is a Raiders fan that's why I used these colors.

Big news.... Tomorrow I am going to Germany! I am very excited like a kid would be waiting to go to a Disney theme park. I will be taking a side trip to Luxembourg to see the town my mother's side of the family came from almost 200 years ago. OOOOH I am so excited! I will try to post a little bit of information about places I see. My mother-in-law is originally from Germany so we are going visiting family and I hope to do some touristy things. I will be happy just to experience being there.

Take care everyone...

I've Been AWOL from Here

I've been missing in action here again. I did go to Illinois to visit family and friends. It was a whirl-wind trip. Son Matthew went with me and we were constantly on the go. Even though we saw everyone we set out to see, I felt like our visits were too short. I brought some crochet items as gifts but spacey me forgot to give the slippers I crocheted to 2 people I had them for. I'll make it up to them the next time I see them. I got carried away talking and visiting and forgot about taking pictures. My son took a couple but he's not familiar with my camera and  they turned out blurry. Anyway, here's what we did.

Met up with an old high school friend and we went to Aurelio's  in Frankfurt, IL for pizza and chat. The pizza was great and the chat was even better. Beth is a great friend and I miss her dearly. Here's a blurry picture   of us--

Our room wasn't ready when we checked into the hotel so we went to the cemetery and put out flowers for my mom. It was between Mothers' Day and  Memorial Day so I decided to go with a patriotic theme for the decorations.

Grandma and Grandpa

For the first time since I graduated high school back in '75, I saw the lady who taught me to crochet. I thanked her several times for teaching me. Crocheting is a great stress reliever for me and I feel like when I give someone something I've crocheted it comes from the heart because of all the hours it takes to make a project and the happy thoughts about the person I'm making the item for. Anyway, she's in her 80s now and no longer crochets because no matter how she sits, her back hurts. She told me to stop in and visit any time I'm back in the area. To be honest, I'm not sure she remembered me.

After not making a trip up there the last 4 or 5 years, I was rather surprised at how much a couple of older relatives have slowed down. I need to make an effort to make a trip more frequently.

My aunt is taking care of my cousin's twins who were born last fall. They're the cutest little things. The little girl has longer hair and very feminine eyebrows. She's definitely the alpha child (is there such a thing?) and she has a very dominant personality. She wasn't happy when I tried to hold her. Her brother on the other hand, not only was I able to hold him but I was able to feed him a bottle too. His hair is shorter and his eyebrows are thicker and he just looks like a little boy already. I took the blankets up there that I've procrastinated about mailing. It was such a long time since I held a baby and I was amazed at how heavy the little ones were! Got me wishing that there were more little ones around us. .

I visited with my cousin and it was very nice. We met at Jameson's Pub and dined outside. Food is delicious there and service is great too. I had a hamburger that was too big to finish at one sitting. I had a small cooler with me so I put my leftovers in it and had the rest for breakfast. I often eat crazy things like that for breakfast, I hate to waste food. Her mother is my aunt who passed away last Thanksgiving. I put some flowers out for her at the cemetery too.

Before I made the drive, Ray had the tires and oil changed in the truck. I'll be darned if my uncle didn't notice a strange sound when he rode with me and after getting it checked out, I had a bad wheel bearing. I'm pretty happy that he noticed it because I could have had a bad accident driving home. So, I extended my stay and had it fixed. My son ended up missing a day at work. Even though he called the day before, he was given a point, or as I call it, a demerit for missing work. He works at Wal-Mart and they're really mean about those things. I've been contemplating boycotting them but then again, my son still works there and is getting a check so I should be less quick about the boycott thing.

We made it home safely and my "babies" were happy to see me.

I have a few ends to weave in on my latest project then I'll post a picture for you.

Take care everyone and hugs,

Going Visiting

Tomorrow morning, I'll be hopping on a jet plane to visit some dear friends in California. I'm so excited to go. I know many folks don't care for California, but I've lived there several times when I was in the US Navy and it's more like home to me than any place I've ever lived. I may be gone, but I have a few posts scheduled to appear here during the 2 weeks I'm gone. I may get a chance to do a posting or 2-- you never know. Y'all have a wonderful time and stay warm in this crazy weather we're having!

I'm Taking Off Again...

A good friend has sent me a ticket to go visit her in California. I'll be leaving a little later today. I've been planning my crochet projects to go--dishcloths and slippers (a different pattern than my usual.)

I really don't care for living where we do so any chance I get for a get-away I'm game for. I'm pretty weird, because I'm agoraphobic (honestly, I've been diagnosed) but I can handle, and eagerly look forward to seeing old friends (old as in long-time not age.) The friend I am going to see has been my friend since high school!

I have a doggie sweater finished for my friend's furbaby--hope it fits! I'll get a picture when I visit them and post it when I get back. Postings will be pretty slim for the next 2 weeks so I'll try to remember to take lots of pictures to post. I'm pretty bad about taking pictures when I go visiting. When I was at my uncle's I managed to take pictures of all the projects he had done around his house and you got it, I forgot to get one of him!

I'm just rambling on here so I'll sign off. Hugs....

I'm Finally Back in Blogland...

I'm finally back here in blogland after my visit with friends in California. I left California on Wednesday afternoon at 3:15 and I arrived in Louisville at 12:45 putting me home at 2 a.m. I was feeling a bit under the weather when I left and have been fighting the flu or something ever since.

While I was gone, the garden under dh's tender care has grown tremendously. Unfortunately, I should have planted the sweet potato vine I had growing because it turned into a stinky pile of mush.

While I was gone, I visited yard/garage sales and a few thrift stores with my friends.

I found this at a thrift store. I'm going to try to "rescue" it. There is a stain on it. I got it for free because of the stain.

Haul of yarn from yard sale. The variegated color is what I need to finish
the topsy turvy doll I have on hiatus!

We also visited 2 casinos and no one won :( --
This one is in the SF Bay area.

and

This one is in San Jacinto

I crocheted a "few" dishcloths too. I love this pattern from Lion Brand Yarns. I did "tweak" the pattern a bit and on some of the cloths I put a scalloped edge.

This is a super-sized one my friend Laurie wanted to use as a doily.

Then I made some scrappy dishcloths for everyday use. I really don't like to waste any yarn-- cotton yarn has really gone up in price!

And a square dishcloth:

I missed all of you. I'm glad to be home and hope to be up to par soon! Hugs...

Lotsa Fun on Vacation...

On July 14th, I went to California to visit some friends. The first stop was to visit a friend in Antioch. I hadn't seen this friend in person since we were in high school back in the 70s! The 2nd friend, has been a friend since 1980.  I met her when I was in the Navy. I only have a few true friends and it is great to have had them for such a long time. My time with them was too short even though I missed my husband and the chis.  Wish dh would have gone with me but he refuses to fly since 911.  Here is a slide show to see a little bit of my trip. For some reason my photos came out blurry and I apologize for that.  Usually my camera takes good pics.

Did you notice that I'm in some of the pictures?  That's a very, very rare occurrence and won't be repeated anytime soon--LOL!

Note:  My friends are as bad as me--we don't like our pictures taken.  So, I switched out a few of  the pictures on the slide show they told me had to GO!  This is take 3 so unless one of us objects to some of the pictures again, this should be it :)

Excitement is Growing!!!

Why am I excited you might be asking yourself???  I'm going to hop on a plane 1 week from today and fly off to the west coast and visit 2 of my great friends!  One friend I haven't seen since high school and we were the class of '75!  The other friend I made in 1980 and I saw her about 5 years ago;  we've been friends and changed diapers on each others' kids and the oldest is 31, going on 32.  I've become quite a bit reclusive the older I get.  I cherish the friends I have more than they can ever know.  I started packing a week ago.  Now I have to go and  weed out extra clothes and make sure that what I've packed matches lol!  Poor dh says he'll miss me and I'll miss him too.  I'll bring him home a souvenir though and come home all happy and less grumpy.

Hope y'all are having a great week!  I gotta go pack some more--lol!
